SIMULACRO

Simulacrum is representation — a simulation of something, a translation of a reality. It is my response to the urgency of speaking about identity and unity within the same multi-gestational womb that is Bolivia, a country that holds more than 36 ethnic groups.

Through photography and video art, the work features nine Bolivian women, all different like the nine departments of this country, connected through the body and movement beneath layers of fabric. The force of cohesion and their coordination as they remove each layer is what prevents the womb from tearing.

Upon reaching the final veil, when almost everything becomes visible, one can sense the elusive and intangible nature of identity.
